Most likely the greatest arcade port on the web

It's been over 6 years and I still can't get enough of Raiden X. The music, gameplay, all a blast of nostalgia and it goes to show you how great a game could be. However, as the years ween on, the game is starting to show it's age and it's begging for another remake to be made in all of it's former glory.
I felt that the gameplay was too easy throughout the entire game as you could easily power up your weapons to max and mow down all the enemies thrown at you. There is also a lag problem prevalent every once a while when the screen gets a but cluttered that leads to cheap deaths.
The music is one of the greatest examples of a quality game soundtrack I have ever heard. Catchy memorable tunes will plague for the rest of the week. Among my personal favorites is Stage 7's "Dread Battleship"'s main theme. I'm shocked that this amazing piece of work hasn't been recreated or remixed and submitted yet to this site. A complete shame that the soundtrack isn't up for download anywhere in a higher quality. I would buy it off itunes if it was up.
This game was a smash hit back in 2005, but it's lost some it's recognition since then. I WANT A REAL SEQUEL, NOW.

Great 8-bit game!

Plenty of nostalgia to go around along with some catchy music! And I could of sworn at one point I was playing Metroid......

Amazing

Yet brutally difficult. The only way I was able to solve some puzzles was by random amounts of clicking and by process of elimination. This, out of all the Riddle games has to be the hardest.

(SPOILER ALERT)
The Snoz problem was so hard to figure out that I just gave up and looked it up (and it's 51702 by the way).

And there are some moments in the game where it wasn't that blatantly obvious that you needed to click on certain things. For an example, getting the daisy took a while even though all you needed to was grab the one closest to you. I stumbled upon this by pure accident after getting frustrated with game a little and started to click randomly in places. After all, if the rest of the daisy's did nothing when you clicked them, why should that one particular one that doesn't look any different from the rest of them be special?

Same goes for the last room with the four puzzles. 2 of them where incredibly easy to figure out while the other two just involved you clicking randomly until you get it. This isn't the kind of puzzle i enjoy where you can just solve them with a series of lucky clicks.

I think in the future installments you should give people more clues or make some of the necessary objects stand out a little more in order to help make the game flow a little better instead of getting people stuck and frustrated on a single puzzle all while they zoom past other puzzles. There needs to be a balance,

JonBro responds:

I actually thought the Snoz puzzle was one of the better ones, but a lot of people seem to be having trouble with it. I'll take what you say into consideration. More clues for the puzzles, more balance in the difficulty. Thanks!

Solid yet....

Although it is a nice solid shooter, it feels a little weak on the side when compared to it's older brother games Redshift and Blueshift. The background seems to loop endlessly and is very unappealing to look at for long periods of time. And the "upgrades" are very sparse and always the same. I feel like you should of saved this as an easter egg of sorts for the next game in the Shift series. It would have been a little better and people would appreciate the gesture.

Fantastic

A true classic that brings us back to the microgame age of gaming. To congratulate you all for creating such a well put together game.
Oh and yes, where has "AP - Terminal" gone? I know that andrew-parker stole his music from others, but where did he get it from?

Good game!

I got 2145 by the way. BEAT THAT. If you had some weapons and you could move a bit faster taht would be awesome.

Awesome game

Tips and hints:
These are from the forums:
# Move around and jump around a lot: Really basic, since if you move around and jump, it'll be harder for enemies to hit you.

# Use the super-jump: By first jumping normally or forward, and doing a backflip as second jump, you can jump slightly higher than with a normal double-jump, hence the name super-jump. You need to do the super-jump to access the weapon rooms in Genetics Lab 2 and 4. -Wexor

# Stay away from enemies with strong weapons: If you're not close to them, the chance of being hit by them will be less, and thus, there's a better chance of surviving. -IcoShee

# Spawn count: The doors opened based on the spawn total count, not the kill count. I can even verify this. I took a picture of the game when I got to one point, and after messing around and not killing mercs, the exit opened on it's own. -DarkAce

# Double-jump to the platforms above: The enemies spawn on the three platforms, and if you just stand by one of them, and maybe crouch, you will be able to evade many enemy bullets, and can if feeling like getting the melee achievement start bashing the ones spawning at the portal you're next to with your lead pipe, and when completing the melee achievement, with your sword. You can either do this for the whole level, or just jump up there to regain health, the choice is yours. -Wexor

# Don't pick up everything you see: Really, try not to pick up guns too much, since they always are low on ammo. You can look at it this way: Just because you see an HK 416 on the floor, it doesn't mean you should switch your MP-5K with 250 bullets for it, since you'll only have around 25 - 30 bullets on the HK 416. On the other hand, if you never switch weapons, you'll never get any large number of ammunition on any weapon but the one you started to use in the beginning of the game, nor will you be able to unlock the All Weapons achievement. -The Forum Ferret II

# Don't get cornered: When avoiding enemy bullets, don't get too close to any walls, since it will be easier for them to shoot you if you're boxed in! -The Forum Ferret II

# Throw 'em to death: You can throw your weapons by pressing spacebar, and this can do a small amount of damage to the enemy (aim for the head). If you want to pick up a new weapon, but already have two, you need to throw one of your current weapons away to pick up a new one. -Tayta

# Throw away the shit you don't like: Another pretty basic one, if you want to pick up a gun but already have two guns, make sure that you throw away the gun you don't want. There's nothing worse than running around carrying junk you don't want or need. -BlueGhost

# Hard Mode: When you have unlocked Hard Mode, you have to go to Options and click "Hard Mode: On" and then click continue game to actually play in Hard Mode. And don't worry, if it gets too hard, you can switch back to normal mode any time you want by going to Options and clicking "Hard Mode: Off". -Wraith and Wexor

# Rapid Fire: By quickly tapping the left mouse button, you will with most automatics be able to fire faster than by just holding the firing button down. Doing this will, on the other have, make the recoil tougher than normally. But keep in mind that if the recoil becomes too rough, you can just switch to your other weapon with E, and then switch back to the weapon with the tough recoil, and it will be back to normal. -Johan

# Backup: If you're using a 1-hit-kill weapon such as the Desert Eagle or Hades Rifle, make sure that your second weapon is something a little bit more appropriate, like a high-powered automatic, to fall back on. -randomViolence

# Penetration: The X6 Flechette Rifle shoots through several enemies, making it good to use against mobs of enemies, and can be used as a Gauss weapon. -randomViolence

LOL

EVIL TANGERIES FROM HELL!!!!!! By the way, you can click on the EVIL TANGERIES to splat them.

Woot!

i beat it! This is an AWESOME game! Very nice job! however, one of the the
problems is that you don't get the puzzle at first, so people get frustrated when playing for the fist time. Next time, add in more guns, different endings, more boss, harder bosses, and hints in case you die 3 times or somthing.

here is a walkthrough for everyone!:
Outside) When you start, click on the green arrow to enter the Tomb.

Room 1) When your inside, click on the skull, red gem, and gold coin(Its on the left of the screen). Then, take out your spade and dig up the dirt thats on the steps. You should find some ammo for your gun. After that, proceed on by clicking the arrow again.

Tunnel 2) Right here, you should see a axe thing swinging back and forth. Congrats. This is your first challenge. Timing is everything here. But I have my way of getting past. First, look at the top left corner of the flash, you will see a cobweb hanging from the celling. Position your mouse over the green arrow. When the axe and cobwebs almost touch, click. (The aex has to be going that way <- when the axe and cobweb almost touch). Repeat this over again until you get to the end of the tunnel. You should get a Icon when you get there. once you do, get all of the stuff(Gems, skulls, coins, ammo) by diging up dirt and looking around before you go on. once your done, Get your crowbar and rid of the planks and go down. (Note: Theres a Secret Room here. Click on the block that sticks out more than the others to go in. Then get your lighter and the room will light up. Get the goody and leave and keep going deeper into the Tomb!)

Room 3) Ok. So here is your seconded challenge. Click the seconded step, then the first, then third, and then third again and go on.

Tunnel 4) Here, pick up everything. And then get your lighter and light the thing under the seconded to the right stalactite. Then light the other torch to the left. And then to the right. and then to the left. Make sure that you pick up everything before your leave.

Room 5) Right here, there are 2 puzzles you have to solve. Their pretty easy. The one on the left is math. (9 ,9 ,7, 0 , 1). And the right one is matching. On the right are the symbolizes that you have to match. There are 2 of each symbolizes. Its easy. Just match them! After your done, step inside the door!

Shooter 6) This is on of my favorite part list. pretty easy. Just shoot the spiders as they run at you. Also, some ammo will drop from the celling, so pick it up.

Room 7) After killing 25 spiders, you will arive in a room full of sand and dirt. Get and dig everything up. There is also another secret room here. Click on the dent in the gold doors to go to it. Light the place up and get the goody. After that Click on the arrow you uncovered.

Floor 8) This may be little hard. Just click and move your mouse over the dots in order as fast as you can.

Stair way 9) get the stuff and move on.

Waterfall 10) There is a unbroken bucket at the top left of the waterfall. And there is a secret room here too. Click the panel thats sticking out left of the water fall. Fill the bucket with water and beat the puzzle!
THis is as far as i can go. I'll leave the rest up to you!!!

Psionic3D responds:

Nice walkthrough!!

on the dots though, slow and accurate can be just as rewarding ;-)

The best platformer ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, this game is missing or needs a few (more) things. Like : More weapons (Uzis, axes, snipers, RPG's, Hammers, Bombs, etc..), a double jump, Upgrades (Increase health, Increase movement speed, Extra lives, etc...), vehicles that you can pilot (Jets, robots, Tanks, Cars, helicopters, hovercrafts, subs, etc...) , tools that can help you at points in the game (Air masks, Jetpacks, lockpick, Grappling Hook, etc...), types of suits ( Space suit, underwater suit, mountain suits, etc...), and finely, Different/more levels (Mountain, Underwater, Space, Jungle, Island) Also, it wouldn't hurt to add a easy button and a story line. Otherwise, keep everything else in this awesome game!
